Curriculum

In the Early Years, Red Coral offers a Montessori based curriculum where progress is assessed and enriched by knowledgeable and caring teachers. Within the multi-age classroom of the Montessori model, children gain invaluable real life experience that enhances both their independence and their teamwork skills. They gain confidence and are given the freedom to explore, question, make connections and understand responsibility. The children follow their own curiosity within the multi-sensory environment, which allows them the opportunity to move at their own pace as they meet their individualised learning goals.

Montessori students grow up to be confident, enthusiastic, self-directed learners. They learn to think critically, work collaboratively and act with integrity – all skills which they carry through into their own daily lives. In older years, the program develops more structure without losing focus on the individuality of each child. Children will continue with key aspects of Montessori-style learning while reaching fundamental learning goals that will allow them to transfer into other mainstream primary schools seamlessly.

Curriculum coverage
The Montessori curriculum can be broken down into five main areas. These five areas do not stand alone, each one is intertwined with the others throughout the learning process. Each lesson provides the opportunity for the children to hone their motor skills and fine tune their interests and strengths. Every moment is an opportunity for curiosity, exploration and learning.
In this area, children learn to care about themselves, others, and their environment. The activities are structured to create opportunities for the development of independence, confidence, empathy, courage, and kindness. Practical life activities aid in honing gross and fine motor skills, problem-solving, practical analysis, and spatial awareness.
These lessons are designed to stimulate the child’s senses through the use of specifically designed materials. Stimulation of the senses promotes curiosity and encourages the children to explore and understand themselves and their world. Imagination and creativity play a big role in the development and, during sensorial activities, children are exposed to a wide range of media and materials that are an excellent outlet for self-expression.
We use different techniques to enhance vocabulary while exploring both spoken and written language. Children will begin to learn phonics which develops their reading and writing skills. Talking is hugely important in this early stage of development and the ever-creative mind of the child is a gold mine waiting to be harnessed.
Culture based activities promote respect and understanding. Learning to appreciate differences is a significant life skill, especially in a community as diverse as ours. This area also encourages children to cultivate their creativity as they develop an awareness and appreciation of the world around them.
A range of mathematical concepts are introduced through the use of concrete materials and practical activities.

Co-Curricular Activities

Learning is not only done in the classroom. We offer a range of extra-curricular activities and hope to be able to offer more with our clubs’ program in the future.
